Dear Manhasset Parents:

Manhasset is a unique community and has developed more than the traditional parent-teacher association. The Manhasset School Community Association (SCA) unites parents, teachers, administrators, staff and community members into one dynamic organization whose primary goals are to advocate for the students of Manhasset, to raise and distribute funds to improve the schools, and enrich the social and educational experiences for our children.

The SCA made several significant gifts to all four schools in 2006-2007, including smart boards for the elementary schools, laptop computers for the English department, new maps for the Social Studies department, a state-of-the-art telescope for the Science department, and audio/video equipment for secondary school. In addition, the SCA donated $30,000 to cover the costs associated with the enrichment programs and Speaker’s Bureau including author visits and writing workshops, dance and theater company performances and individual classroom visits by the Science Museum and Rachel’s Challenge. In all, $100,000 was donated by the SCA!

On an annual basis, your membership dues also help support:

• STUDENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS – including Character Education, Speaker’s Bureau, Saturday Series, Children’s Theater, book fairs and more.

• SUMMER STUDIES AWARDS and EDUCATIONAL GRANTS – to support students entering senior year in their summer endeavors and to support college bound students.

• STUDENT ASSISTANCE - additional financial aid to guarantee every Manhasset student equal opportunity to participate in all school activities.

• COMMUNICATION – serves as a conduit for information between the district and parents.
